Clyde slipped to defeat in their first Glasgow Cup match of the 2026-27 season this evening, as old rivals Queen’s Park showed their class in Hamilton.

As Darren Young and his men continue to work towards the big kick-off in two weeks’ time, recent signings Jay Hogarth and Timam Scott both started the match for The Bully Wee. Goalkeeper Daniel Terry was named on the bench after penning amateur terms, with Young limited to listing four trialists as per competition rules.

There was to be a bright start from the hosts, with Scott’s header from Lewis Lovering’s hooked delivery drawing a fine save from ex-Clyde loanee Milosz Sliwinski. Nathan Cannon, deployed up front, also had a sniff but his effort was well blocked by The Spiders’ goalkeeper.

Queen’s came back into things midway through the half, with a pair of defensive errors handing them a two-goal lead at the interval. First, a miscued clearance saw the ball drop for Michael Ruth who swept a volley just inside the post, before an undercooked backpass presented the same man with a one-on-one against Hogarth. He made no mistake, bearing down on goal before slotting it underneath the Clyde ‘keeper.

The second half was once again a story of many substitutions for both sides and QP’s superior familiarity told, as they took complete control of the match. Sean Crighton’s side passed up numerous chances and had two goals disallowed before the finale, but the evening’s scoring was to be completed by the home team. Scott Williamson worked himself a bit of space at the edge of the box and lifted a cute ball in behind, with the onrushing Logan Dunachie producing a smart volleyed finish across Sliwinksi to give the home support something to cheer.
