The Bully Wee were defeated by Queen’s Park this evening in a City of Glasgow Cup tie played behind closed doors at Broadwood.

Danny Lennon took the opportunity to rotate his squad again and give game time to players on the fringe of the first team.

Clyde’s first chance came through a counter attack, with a trialist right-back drilling a low shot towards target, but his effort was held.

The Spiders then somehow failed to open the scoring despite getting three shots in a row away in the six yard box, all of which were blocked by Josh Bradley-Hurst and his defenders.

Queen’s Park did make the breakthrough just before the half-hour mark after Luis Longstaff finished off a slick passing move, rolling the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

After the interval Clyde then had a very similar goalmouth stramash to the one Queen’s Park had in the first half. Mortimer, Jones and Andrew were all involved, but saw chances blocked, hitting the underside of the woodwork and cleared off the line.

Connor McBride doubled The Spiders advantage midway through the second half, before Liam McLeish sealed the points with a curling effort in the 81st minute.

The Bully Wee got a consolation with a minute remaining after Morgaro Gomis beat an opponent to a loose ball in the box and was tripped. Rob Jones took the penalty with aplomb and netted emphatically.
