Recap
Clyde’s League Two campaign got off to a winning start at the Excelsior Stadium this afternoon, as Michael Daly’s last-minute header completed a battling second half comeback.
Barry Ferguson made one change to his starting line-up, with Giuseppe Capuano replacing the suspended John Sweeney in midfield.
The first half of the match saw Clyde dominate spells of possession, but with both sides having a fair share of chances on goal. Scott McManus was unlucky to see his superb volley hit the inside of the post, with Jamie Barclay having to scramble to keep out a long-range free kick at the other end.
As the half-time break approached, Darren Miller missed a great chance when his header went wide of the post, before Scott Ferguson’s mazy run ended with Willie Muir pulling off a great save to deny the Clyde winger.
The Bully Wee had a slow start to the second period and were punished by the hosts after 58 minutes. Miller’s corner to the near post eluded Scott Durie and Jamie Barclay and crept directly into the net to give The Spiders the lead.
After a difficult spell of play, Clyde were given a lifeline with just over ten minutes to go when Tony Quinn’s rash challenge on Ferguson gave the referee no option but to point to the spot. Ross McKinnon stepped up and found the net with an excellent penalty.
In the last minute, Clyde’s continued pressure paid off as David Gray’s cross found the head of Michael Daly and the substitute made no mistake in scoring an enjoyable winning goal.
