Recap
Queen’s Park extended their winning run over Clyde to nine matches this afternoon, following an IRN-BRU Third Division victory that was painfully easy for the home side.
Jim Duffy made two changes to the team that faced Berwick at the weekend, with Pat Scullion and John Neill replacing Bryan Gilfillan and Paul Hay.
The match started extremely badly for The Bully Wee, with two goals conceded inside the first 6 minutes of play. Michael Keenan got the first when he lashed the ball in via the crossbar, following a cutback from the left wing. The second came from the head of Sean Burns as the Clyde defence struggled to cope with the early onslaught.
However, after surviving a few more scares, a goal at the other end gave some hope of a comeback. Lee Sharp’s long pass was collected by Kevin Watt, who did well to round the ‘keeper and find the net from a tight angle.
John Neill then had a chance with a glancing header before Queen’s opened up a two goal advantage again, right on the stroke of half-time. Sloppy play from defence led to a cross from the right wing being headed into his own net by Pat Scullion.
After the break, the hosts took control of the proceedings and added a fourth goal on 77 minutes, with Keenan slotting home his second goal from inside the box.
Clyde’s only real attempt on goal during the second period came when Watt’s turn and shot just missed the target.
