Recap
The Ladbrokes League 2 title will be decided on the final day of the season, after The Bully Wee recorded a 3-0 win over old Glasgow rivals Queen’s Park at Broadwood.
Danny Lennon made just one change to the side that took apart Berwick Rangers last Saturday, with Ally Love replacing Kristoffer Syvertsen.
Clyde had most of the early play and possession but didn’t put too much pressure on the Queen’s Park goal, though Jordan Hart had to tip a header from Scott Rumsby onto his crossbar.
David Goodwillie then took advantage of an error from Scott Gibson and raced towards goal, but blazed his effort well over the bar.
The deadlock was broken in the 33rd minute when Ally Love made a clever run in behind The Spiders’ defence and found himself one-on-one with Hart, but he unselfishly squared the ball across goal to Goodwillie, who thrashed it into the empty net.
The Bully Wee suffered a major blow just before half-time when veteran midfielder John Rankin was stretchered off after picking up a serious looking lower leg injury whilst winning possession.
Blair Currie was called into action for the first time in stoppage time when he got down low to stop Ciaran Summers’ drive.
Queen’s Park had another chance after the interval after David Galt broke free from the Clyde defence and found himself one-on-one with Currie, but the Clyde ‘keeper made another smart save.
The lead was doubled sixteen minutes from time when Scott Banks drove at The Spiders rearguard and played in Love. The forward took a touch before driving his effort across Hart and into the net, clipping the post on the way.
It was 3-0 five minutes later. Goodwillie showed great determination to keep the ball in play and his pass found Kristoffer Syvertsen. The Norwegian saw his shot blocked but he reacted first to the rebound, and set up Ray Grant to slot home from close range.
There was no further scoring at Broadwood but The Bully Wee faithful found themselves celebrating again after news of ex-Clyde man Peter MacDonald’s 93rd minute goal for Stirling Albion at Peterhead filtered through, which means Clyde still have a chance of lifting the League 2 title next Saturday.
