The Bully Wee suffered a heavy defeat this afternoon, as Queen’s Park came out on top at the National Stadium.

Bryn Halliwell, Ross McMillan and Charlie Miller returned to the Clyde team, but top-scorer Marc McCusker was once more ruled out through injury.

Clyde started the match brightly and had a chance to score in the opening seconds. Miller did well to cut inside a defender and his shot from a tight angle was well held by Adam Strain.

However, the hosts steadied themselves and two goals in quick succession completely changed the face of the match. Both were scored by winger David Murray, with his pace helping to expose some poor defending on both occasions.

In truth, that was the catalyst for the Spiders to go on to dominate the rest of the match, but a controversial piece of refereeing led to a killer third goal before the half-time break. Craig Charleston appeared to miss a clear foul on Kevin Finlayson in midfield, which led to Ian Watt putting a lovely shot into the top corner of the net.

Any thoughts that the Bully Wee may have had about getting back into the match in the second half were quickly extinguished five minutes after played resumed. Clyde’s defence couldn’t cope with a quick counter-attack and Jamie Longworth gratefully accepted a pass in the box to stroke the ball home from close range.

That completely finished the match as a contest and there was little else to report up to the final whistle, which signalled a thoroughly deserved three points for Queen’s Park.
