Queen’s Park v Clyde

David Goodwillie scored on his return from injury as Clyde picked up a point against old rivals Queen’s Park at Hampden this afternoon.

Danny Lennon made three changes to his side, with Scott Banks, Mark Lamont and Scott Rumsby being brought into the starting lineup, whilst Goodwillie took a place on the bench.

The Spiders had the first effort on target as David Galt tested Blair Currie with a low drive, which the Clyde ‘keeper held on to.

Scott Banks, making his first start for The Bully Wee, had a good chance to break the deadlock when he capitalised on a misjudgement from Scott McLean and drove into the box, but dallied on the ball and the home defence was able to clear the danger.

An even better opportunity went amiss moments later when Martin McNiff met a deep cross and set up Declan Fitzpatrick, but he put his effort from a few yards out went just past the post.

The impressive Banks created another chance just before the interval, beating his opponent and sending a low cross into the box for Fitzpatrick, though his finish again ended up being on the wrong side of the post.

Both sides had chances in the opening stages of the second half, with Mark Lamont sending a low drive across the face of goal, and Currie saving a Kurtis Roberts effort from the edge of the area.

David Goodwillie was introduced to the action on the hour mark and had an immediate impact, sending John Rankin through on goal, but the veteran midfielder’s shot trundled wide.

Queen’s Park goalkeeper Jordan Hart was then called into action and made an excellent save from a powerful Fitzpatrick shot in the box.

The Bully Wee finally opened the scoring as the game entered the final ten minutes. Goodwillie timed his run to perfection as he got on the end of Rankin’s through ball, and kept his composure to round Hart and slot the ball into the empty net.

The lead would only last four minutes however. The Clyde defence failed to clear their lines following a cross into the box, and substitute Euan East was able to fire home from a wide angle.

The hosts then had a golden chance to take all three points as the unmarked Dom McLaren got on the end of a free-kick, but his header somehow missed the target from a few yards out.
