Clyde v Stirling Albion

The Bully Wee returned to winning ways this afternoon with a 2-1 victory over Stirling Albion, to register their sixth successive win at Broadwood.

Danny Lennon made two changes to the side that went down at Cowdenbeath last weekend, with Kevin Nicoll and Jack Boyle coming in for Barry Cuddihy and Ally Love.

The first half saw little in the way of goalmouth action. Darren Barr had a long range header comfortably saved by Blair Currie, and just before half-time Dylan Cogill saw his header from a corner flash narrowly by the post. 

The game exploded into life shortly after the interval, with all three goals coming in a seven minute spell.

Jack Boyle opened the scoring when he picked up a loose ball just inside the Stirling half and flicked it back to Chris McStay, who played the ball back to Boyle. The diminutive playmaker then drove towards goal, shrugging off pressure from a visiting defender, before calmly slotting across Cammy Binnie.

The lead lasted just two minutes, after Peter MacDonald floated a cross into the Clyde box. Daniel Jardine nipped in between Currie and the Clyde defence and headed over the Clyde ‘keeper to put his side back on level terms.

Moments later MacDonald hit a powerful shot that looked bound for target blocked by the foot of Jordan Stewart.

The winning goal then came in strange circumstances. David Goodwillie started a Clyde attack and the ball was played through to Boyle in the box. The assistant referee flagged for offside but Boyle played on and poked the ball past Binnie to reinstate Clyde’s lead. Despite protests from the visitors, referee Steven Kirkland awarded the goal, deeming that the ball had been played through to Boyle by a Binos defender, and not Goodwillie. 

Goodwillie almost got on the scoresheet himself after being fed through by Boyle, but his effort was just off target.
