Recap
Clyde’s struggle for points continued at Broadwood today, as two late goals earned Stirling Albion a sixth win in succession in Ladbrokes League 2.
John Gibson was deemed fit enough to return in goals, with David Gormley and Martin McNiff also coming back after suspension. As the team changed shape, on loan Scott Lochhead was handed a first start and defender Kevin Rutkiewicz was fielded as a trialist.
The opening stages of the game saw very few chances for either side, with Clyde coming closest with a long range shot from Peter MacDonald spotting the keeper off his line, but he couldn’t direct his effort on target.
25 minutes in, Martin McNiff managed to get on the end of a long ball and cross into the area, with MacDonald making no mistake in volleying the ball into the bottom corner to put Clyde in front.
MacDonald had another chance soon after when another long pass found Gormley to lay him off, but he couldn’t direct his shot goalwards.
Stirling came close to an equaliser just before half-time when Ross Kavanagh found space in the box but his powerful effort went wide of the target.
The second half started in favour of the visitors and it wasn’t long until they brought the score level, when a pass through the Clyde defence found Darren Smith in space and he slotted the ball low past Gibson.
The Bully Wee found themselves in the lead again though, when MacDonald was pulled down in the box following a Scott McLaughlin free-kick and a penalty was awarded. David Gormley stepped up to take it and sent the ball into the roof of the net.
Fifteen minutes later, Stirling drew level again after a header from a corner was cleared off the line, but the ball was eventually volleyed into the net.
Stirling then took the lead just a few minutes later, after a cross found the head of Darren Smith and he looped his header over John Gibson to put The Binos in front.
Despite some late Clyde pressure which resulted in few sights of goal, the visitors managed to hold onto their lead, which confirmed a disappointing defeat for The Bully Wee.
