Recap
The Bully Wee’s season ended on a disappointing note today, as Stirling claimed a victory from a match that was hugely influenced by one key moment.
Following the defeat at Peterhead last week, Jim Duffy added Pat Scullion and Daniel Fitzpatrick to the starting line-up.
The match started well for Clyde and Stefan McCluskey scored a fine opening goal after just 5 minutes. A quick throw-in by John Sweeney was collected by Kevin Watt and his inch perfect cross was guided into the net by McCluskey.
The Bully Wee continued to dominate play for the rest of the first half, but couldn’t find a crucial second goal. Scullion came close on two occasions, with efforts by Sweeney and McCluskey also causing problems for Binos ‘keeper David Crawford.
After the half-time break, there was a further chance for Sweeney – whose shot was blocked from close range – and Scullion forced Crawford into an excellent stop.
However, Clyde were to be punished for not getting on the scoresheet again. A long ball into the home box deceived Iain Gray and led to a tangle between him and a Stirling forward. The referee pointed to the spot and deemed Gray’s foul as denying a clear goalscoring opportunity, worthy of a red card. Jordan White slammed the penalty into the roof of the net.
As The Bully Wee tried to adjust to the loss of Gray, the visitors became more dangerous and eventually scored again. A cross from the left wasn’t cleared and Ross McGeachie was able to find the bottom corner of the net.
A late push by Clyde didn’t result in any clear-cut chances being created and the full-time whistle confirmed a 9th place finish in the IRN-BRU Third Division.
