Recap
Clyde let another two points slip this evening, as the first of their games in hand yielded yet another draw in Hamilton.
Darren Young made two changes to the team that picked up a point at Annan last Saturday, with Tommy Robson and Kyle Connell restored to the team in place of Sam Campbell and Scott Williamson; the latter missing out through injury.
Chances were at a premium in the opening stages, with Clyde having more of the territory but Elgin looking more threatening when they did get forward. Jack MacIver flashed a shot wide early on and Kane Hester was played in on goal, with Clyde ‘keeper Jay Hogarth making a fine block to deny him.
The Bully Wee turned the screw towards the end of the half but failed to trouble visiting shot stopper Tom Ritchie with a few half chances, before Craig Howie showed his forwards how to do it. With half time looming, Clyde won a series of corners and the last of them, taken by Robson, found the centre half at the back post. He outmuscled his marker and powered home a header to give his side a valuable lead at the break.
Darren Young’s men failed to build on that goal after the change of ends, having a few near things whilst largely keeping Elgin at bay, and it was to prove costly. There was a moment of particular controversy as substitute Aidan McGinley’s ball across the box was parried into the path of the backtracking Russell Dingwall, who clearly handled the ball prior to hooking it clear via the underside of the crossbar.
At this point, the visitors had taken control of proceedings and they soon found their equaliser. Ally Spalding was afforded too much space in a wide area and his delivery was stabbed home by Ryan Sargent at the near post.
A tired Clyde team fashioned one last good chance when Redfern spun in the box, but his deflected effort was well saved. Craig Howie – fresh from being bloodied in an aerial challenge – was issued a straight red card at the death, having committed a late foul to curtail an Elgin counter, as a disappointing evening ended on a particularly sour note.
