Recap
The Bully Wee booked their place in the last eight of the SPFL Trust Trophy after beating Elgin City 4-2 on penalties this afternoon following a goalless draw at Borough Briggs.
Jim Duffy made four changes to his side, with Ross Lyon, Peter Grant, Andy Rodden and Euan Cameron all returning.
Kane Hester had a couple of early half chances for the hosts whilst at the other end Jordan Allan turned his marker but dragged his shot narrowly across the face of goal.
Allan had another chance when he expertly controlled a high ball from Morgaro Gomis but again his effort went just past the post.
Elgin then had an opportunity just before the interval when the ball was headed to the back post from a free-kick but an attacker scooped it over the bar.
There was little in the way of chances after the interval but there was a flashpoint ten minutes after the restart when Andy Rodden was shown a straight red card for a lunging tackle on Matthew Cooper.
Clyde tried to threaten through Barry Cuddihy after he made a run down the right wing and cut in before hitting a shot on his left foot, but it lacked power and McHale saved it.
Olly McDonald then almost scored with his first touch after coming off the bench but again McHale was equal to his volley.
As the game wore on Clyde started to tire with being at a numerical disadvantage on a very heavy pitch as Elgin created all of the late chances.
Brian McLean was forced to make a vital sliding block as Hester bore down on goal, and then Neil Parry made a fine save from Fin Allen.
Russell Dingwall then had two opportunities in the last minute to win the tie, dragging his first shot the wrong side of the post then forcing Parry into another top drawer save as the match headed to penalties.
Parry saved the first spot kick from Darryl McHardy and Clyde took advantage through McLean. The hosts netted their next two, as did Clyde through Allan and Ray Grant. Parry then made another great stop to deny Allen, which allowed Peter Grant to thump home the winning spot kick and send Clyde into the next round.
