The Bully Wee secured another three points this evening as goals from Jack Boyle and Scott Rumsby put Elgin City to the sword at Broadwood.

Danny Lennon made three changes to the side which beat Stirling Albion on Saturday, with Tom Lang, Jack Boyle and Scott Banks coming in for Jordan Stewart, Ally Love and Mark Lamont.

Banks almost opened the scoring in the second minute when he unleashed a shot from the edge of the area, which Kyle Gourlay turned behind.

The on-loan youngster provided the assist for the opening goal in the 14th minute after picking up the ball in midfield and driving forward, before playing Jack Boyle into the box. Boyle then slotted the ball through the legs of Gourlay and into the net.

Martin McNiff then came close to doubling the advantage in spectacular fashion with a half-volley from the corner of the box which Gourlay was able to parry. The ball fell to David Goodwillie but he miscued his shot with an open goal at his mercy.

The visitors began to grow into the game and created several chances towards the end of the first half, with Blair Currie pulling off a good save from Brian Cameron’s shot. They were unable to convert their opportunities into goals, with another couple of efforts falling narrowly wide of the target.

Banks was causing the Elgin defence problems and he sent a low cross into the box for John Rankin just prior to the interval, but Gourlay was equal to the snapshot.

In the opening stages of the second half Banks picked out Goodwillie with a pass, who was able to turn and square the ball to Rankin, but the midfielder would be frustrated again as his effort crashed off the post.

A second goal came in the 73rd minute when Scott Rumsby got on the end of Mark Lamont’s corner at the near post and flicked the ball over Gourlay, to claim his first goal for the club.
