Recap

The Bully Wee made it three wins on the bounce following a convincing 4-1 victory over Elgin City at Broadwood this afternoon.

The Clyde team had a settled look to it, with Danny Lennon naming the same side for the third successive week.

Clyde broke the deadlock after 16 minutes, when Chris McStay’s corner was met by Martin McNiff, and the defender headed home.

McNiff then turned provider as The Bully Wee doubled their advantage. He picked out David Goodwillie with a long ball, and the striker raced through on goal, before calmly placing the ball beyond Kyle Gourlay.

Five minutes before the interval McNiff got his second goal of the day, and sixth of the season, when he got on the end of Ally Love’s corner, and powered a downward header past Gourlay.

Elgin pulled a goal back on the stroke of half-time, when Blair Currie misjudged a free-kick by ex-Clyde man Jordan Lowdon. The ball bounced over the ‘keeper’s head and despite his best efforts to clear it, the assistant referee signalled that the ball had crossed the line.

The visitors almost got another in the early stages of the second half, but Rabin Omar saw his long-range strike cannon back off the woodwork.

McNiff then had a chance to claim a hat-trick when he was picked out from another corner, but Gourlay held his header on this occasion.

Elgin were reduced to ten men just after the hour mark after Omar picked up a second yellow card for a rash challenge on McStay.

Mark Lamont burst down the wing and sent a teasing ball into the box, which was met by Goodwillie. His header had Gourlay beaten, but the crossbar denied him.

Clyde put the result beyond doubt a few minutes later when Goodwillie intercepted a short pass between the Elgin defence and squared to Karim Belmokhtar. The French-Algerian striker saw his first shot blocked on the line, but he followed up and slotted home the rebound to net his first goal in Bully Wee colours.

The Bully Wee created several more chances in the closing stages but were unable to add to their lead.
