Montrose v Clyde

The Bully Wee battled hard and picked up a valuable point against Montrose at Links Park this afternoon.

Danny Lennon made four changes to the side from last Saturday’s defeat, with Barry Cuddihy, Scott Rumsby, Aaron Splaine and Gregory Tade coming into the starting line-up. Allan Moore took charge of the dugout, with Lennon serving a touchline ban.

Montrose started the match stronger and Neil Parry did well to keep out a shot on the turn from Elijah Simpson.

There was controversy midway through the half when referee Graham Beaton awarded the hosts a penalty for an apparent handball. The decision was extremely surprising, given Nick McAllister controlled the ball with his chest and had his back to the whistler. Justice was done when Neil Parry got down low to his right and made a superb stop to deny Craig Johnston from the spot.

Clyde took the lead in the 28th minute after a well worked move resulted in Adam Livingstone sending a cross from a wide area into the back post, where McAllister was on hand to rise above a defender and power a header home.

The lead only lasted four minutes however, as Blair Lyons converted a low cross to net the equaliser.

Parry made another fine stop towards the end of the first half to deny Michael Gardyne, and the same player cracked the post after the interval.

The Bully Wee started to come more into the game, and McAllister had the ball in the net again but it was chalked off with Tade offside in the build up.

Livingstone then saw a volley go just past the top corner of the goal, whilst Ross Cunningham’s low drive from distance also went narrowly wide.

The hosts were reduced to ten men in the 80th minute, when Lyons was shown a straight red card for an off-the-ball stamp on McAllister.

The remainder of the match was end-to-end and both sides had chances to win it, but had to settle for a point in the end.
