Recap
The Bully Wee suffered a heavy defeat in Angus this afternoon, with the result moving Montrose level on points with Clyde in the IRN-BRU Third Division.
Loan signing Dale Fulton went straight into the starting line-up and he was joined by David Crawford, who made himself available to play despite being involved in a car accident yesterday. Stephen McDonald was given the striker role following the departure of Jordan White and Liam Cusack.
The first half of the match was closely contested but largely uneventful at either end, with little to trouble either goalkeeper during the 45 minutes.
Clyde made a decent start to the second half and Fulton almost got a debut goal when his 20-yard shot fizzed past the far post.
However, the following few minutes completely changed the match. Montrose earned the lead with a breakaway goal, with Lee Sharp unable to prevent the ball coming in from the right and David McGowan’s massively deflected shot bouncing into the net.
Seconds later, it was 2-0, with Scott Johnston beating Brian McQueen to a low cross and stabbing the ball past Crawford.
The hosts were in comfortable control for the rest of the match and added two more goals. The first was a long-range effort from Jamie Winter, with sub Stephen McNally getting a late fourth when his innocuous looking shot evaded Crawford and squirmed into the back of the net.
