Recap
The Bully Wee ended their Ladbrokes League 2 season in a frustrating manner, as they lost out to Berwick Rangers at Broadwood.
Barry Cuddihy came into the starting lineup for the suspended Kevin Nicoll, in the only change to Danny Lennon’s side.
Clyde went looking for an early goal and put pressure on the visiting defence in the opening minutes. Chris McStay had the first opportunity of the afternoon, but he couldn’t keep his effort down.
It was however The Wee Gers who took the lead, with only 7 minutes on the clock. Jordan Orru got in behind the Clyde defence and cut the ball back from the by-line to the waiting Jack Hamilton, who slotted past Blair Currie.
Clyde tried to force their way back into the game but were unable to find a way past Sean Brennan, with the Berwick ‘keeper holding Mark Lamont’s powerful drive, then tipping a low shot from Chris McStay round the post.
David Goodwillie then had a chance when he evaded the Berwick backline but his header just looped over the bar.
Currie was called into action with half-time approaching, and got a strong hand behind Paul Willis’ shot, as the visitors looked to double their advantage.
The Bully Wee were back on level terms just before the hour mark when the ball fell to Jack Boyle in the box following a corner, and the playmaker rifled the ball into the net.
Five minutes later the visitors regained the lead when Orru sent a teasing cross into the box, and Hamilton was on hand again to nod the ball past Currie.
Berwick were reduced to ten men after Steven Notman lunged into a tackle over the top of the ball. He had already went into the referee’s book in the first half, but Mat Northcroft deemed the challenge to be worthy of a straight red card.
Danny Lennon changed formation in an attempt to turn the game around and also threw on Max Wright, who had an attempt cleared off the line.
The Bully Wee were unable to find a way past Berwick again, and with Stirling Albion and Stenhousemuir playing out a draw, Clyde’s playoff hopes came to an end.
