Recap
The Bully Wee secured their first home win of the season this evening, claiming a welcome three points in the process.
New loan signings Pat Scullion and Paul Mulrooney were added to the starting line-up, with Daniel Thomson taking a place on the bench.
The match started well for Clyde as John Stewart scored the opener after 13 minutes. A low free-kick into the box by Nicki Paterson broke off a Berwick defender, with Stewart taking advantage of the loose ball by delightfully chipping the ‘keeper and finding the corner of the net.
Jim Duffy’s men continued to dominate the rest of the half and Ryan MacBeth forced Mark Peat into an excellent save when he wriggled into the box and hit a low drive.
The start of the second half saw Berwick miss a good chance to level the scores and they continued to cause Clyde problems with a much improved display. The Wee Gers created more chances and Paul Gribben was the most unlucky as his curling shot hit the post, with Bryn Halliwell alert to save a second attempt from the rebound.
However, the Bully Wee battled hard to defend the lead and also posed a threat at the other end. A looping, long-range effort by MacBeth bounced off the crossbar. The rebound fell kindly to Stewart but unfortunately the striker couldn’t convert for the second time, pulling his shot wide.
With the full-time whistle approaching, sub Kevin Finlayson sealed the win. Some good hassling work by Stewart led to Finlayson being in on the ‘keeper and the winger produced a composed finish, rounding Peat and calmly placing the ball into the corner of the net.
It wasn’t quite the last action though, as ex-Clyde man David Greenhill was shown a straight red card for an irresponsible, high tackle on MacBeth, with the youngster thankfully avoiding injury.
