Recap
The Bully Wee suffered a disappointing home defeat this afternoon, as Berwick scored four on their way to claiming three points.
Jim Duffy fielded the same starting line-up that performed well at Elgin last week and his side should have taken the lead in the opening minutes. John Neill’s pass released Liam Cusack, but the striker couldn’t find the target as away ‘keeper Barclay narrowed the angle.
Ex-Clyde man Kevin McDonald then missed a great chance to give the Borderers the advantage, when he found himself with time and space at the edge of the box but put his shot over the bar.
An increasingly scrappy first half saw Stephen McDonald bring out a save from Barclay but it was the visitors that managed to score shortly before half-time.
A bad individual error by Gavin Brown, giving possession away in his own box, allowed Damon Gray to find the roof of the net from close range.
Clyde’s performance improved after the break and John Neill found an early equaliser, with a glancing header from John Sweeney’s cross.
Neill should have scored again only moments later as another cross from the right fell to him at the back post, but his shot went wide.
That seemed to spur Berwick into life again and they gradually took hold of the match, with two goals in as many minutes giving them a comfortable advantage. Darren Gribben was the man with both, first guiding home a header from ten yards out and then curling a fine free-kick into the roof of the net.
There was little to offer a hope of a comeback from The Bully Wee subsequently and a fourth goal in injury time by Elliot Smith put the icing on the cake for the English club, leaving Clyde with plenty to ponder in the week ahead.
