Recap
A gutsy display saw The Bully Wee’s recent good away form continue this afternoon, as a victory at Shielfield Park was secured despite a red card for Iain Gray.
Following the match at Peterhead last week, Jim Duffy added Pat Scullion to the starting line-up in an otherwise unchanged team.
The first half of the match was mostly even, with few chances at either end. Kevin Watt came closest for Clyde following Stuart McColm’s cross, but the striker couldn’t quite get enough on his header to beat Paul Grant.
At the other end, Lee Currie narrowly missed with a shot and Scott Dalziel came even closer when his header hit the outside of the post.
Just after the half-time break, Clyde took the lead. John Sweeney’s long throw was met by Ryan Frances and his well-placed header found the top corner of the net.
With almost an hour on the clock, Iain Gray caught Darren Lavery with a late challenge in midfield and the referee quickly showed him a straight red card, before a heated exchange took place between several players.
That gave the hosts an extra impetus going forward and for most of the remainder of the match, it took a spirited defensive effort by The Bully Wee to keep the lead intact.
Kenny O’Brien’s header was brilliantly turned away by an impressive Jamie Barclay; with the Clyde ‘keeper going on to make many important interventions. The Wee Rangers were also unlucky when O’Brien’s shot hit the inside of the post and was scrambled to safety as they piled on the pressure.
However, a combination of good goalkeeping, strong defence and general hard work ensured that a fine three points headed back to Broadwood.
