Recap
Clyde’s first competitive match for three weeks produced a fine result this afternoon, as The Bully Wee team bus left Berwick with an important victory.
There were several changes to the team that faced Annan last month, with new signings Jordan White and Jason Marr, Pat Scullion and trialist ‘keeper David Crawford all coming into the side.
They helped Clyde to a good start to the match and an opening goal after 25 minutes. White was fouled in the box by home goalkeeper Jamie Barclay, with John Sweeney stepping up to calmly place the resultant penalty into the middle of the net.
Further chances followed for Clyde as the lead should have been doubled before the half-time break. White and John Neill both hit the woodwork and Liam Cusack forced Barclay into a save from close range.
However, at the other end, Berwick missed a glorious chance to level the scores with a header from within touching distance of goal.
The second half was a tougher affair for Jim Duffy’s men, on an increasingly heavy pitch. The home side enjoyed the bulk of the territory, but struggled to create any clear-cut chances to seriously trouble a competant-looking Crawford.
The match could have been over when brilliant play by Cusack left him with a seemingly easy task to score, but the striker couldn’t finish the move off.
He did eventually grab a clinching goal though. With four minutes left on the clock, he managed to get on the end of a cross by substitute Michael Oliver and force the ball into the net, sealing an excellent win.
