Recap
The Bully Wee came back from two goals behind to earn a League Two point at Broadwood this afternoon.
Barry Ferguson handed a start to Stephen O’Donnell in midfield, with Brian McQueen and Scott McManus also returning to the starting line-up.
For much of the first half, it was the visitors who were on top and they were able to build on an early lead following a ninth minute opening goal. Jonny Fairbairn was the man who scored it from close range, after the Clyde defence failed to deal with a Berwick corner.
The Wee Rangers could have extended their lead, as they twice hit the bar and also forced Jamie Barclay into a terrific save from point-blank range.
However, a mistake by Berwick player-manager Colin Cameron gave Scott McManus a chance in the box and he did well to get the better of the ‘keeper and roll the ball into the net.
Just before half-time, Barclay’s fortunes changed as he fumbled Lee Currie’s free-kick and couldn’t prevent the ball bundling over the line to put the away side in the lead again.
After the break, Michael Daly replaced Kevin Watt in attack and Clyde approached the match with more vigour. McManus had a chance to score again, but his shot was pushed away by William Bald at the near post.
Just when it looked as though The Bully Wee’s pressure would pay off, Berwick scored a third goal against the run of play as David Gold escaped his marker in the box and directed a low shot passed Barclay.
With just over ten minutes remaining, a fantastic team move led to Scott Ferguson being brought down in the box for a clear penalty, which McManus coolly placed into the bottom corner.
Moments later, the comeback was completed as O’Donnell’s fine cross was superbly headed home by Daly.
New signing Andy Gibson, on as a substitute, had a chance to win the match for Clyde but his shot from the edge of the box was pushed away by Bald. At the other end, O’Donnell was sharp as he got back and cleared an effort off the line.
In injury time, there was a final moment of controversy as Currie and O’Donnell tangled on the wing, resulting in the Berwick man being shown a straight red card for a headbutt.
