The Bully Wee’s 2021-22 season ended with a narrow defeat in Dumbarton this afternoon, with ex-Clyde players Kris Syvertsen and Gregg Wylde scoring for the hosts.

Danny Lennon made four changes to the XI that took to the field for Clyde’s last match at Broadwood seven days ago, with Billy Mortimer, Jonathan Page and Rob Jones coming in, along with Paul Kennedy for the first time since December.

The Sons took the lead in the 11th minute when Syvertsen picked up the ball on the edge of the box, took it past Scott Rumsby and fired beyond Neil Parry into the back of the net.

Paul Kennedy almost equalised when an attempted cross looked like it was dipping under the crossbar, but Sam Ramsbottom punched it over.

Dumbarton had chances to increase their lead through Ross MacLean but Parry pulled off a save, and Syvertsen almost added a second but his shot was deflected behind.

The Bully Wee equalised in added on time at the end of the first half when Billy Mortimer played in Lewis Jamieson and he got to the by-line before attempting to cut back to Ally Love. The pass was blocked by a defender but the ball returned to Jamieson, who slotted home from a narrow angle.

After the interval Ally Love came close with a drive flashing across the face of goal, and Jamieson almost took advantage of a poor punch by Ramsbottom by hitting a shot on the turn, but it was blocked on the line by a defender.

Gregg Wylde then created a chance with a cut back to Syvertsen, but Parry again denied the Norwegian. The Sons netted the winning goal in the 82nd minute following a counter attack with Wylde finishing off the move and beating Parry, despite the ‘keeper getting a hand to it.

Clyde finished the game with 10 men after Kevin Nicoll was shown a red card for a strong challenge on Josh Oyinsan.
