Recap
The Bully Wee crashed to their fourth Ladbrokes League 1 defeat in a row after a scrappy contest in Dumbarton this evening.
Danny Lennon named the same starting XI that played well in Kirkcaldy on Saturday, with Chris Johnston returning from injury to take a spot on the bench.
The first half was a fairly dull affair, though Chris McStay came close early on, with his shot from the edge of the box ending up narrowly past the post.
The host’s best chance in the opening period came through Joe McKee, after his free-kick brushed the side netting.
Dumbarton ‘keeper Conor Brennan punched an early second half free-kick clear only as far as McStay on the edge of the area, but he couldn’t find the target with his volley.
Jai Quitongo then had a good chance to open the scoring for Dumbarton after taking advantage of a defensive error and running through on goal, but David Mitchell stood tall and made an excellent block from the shot.
The deadlock was broken in the 67th minute when a clearance from a corner fell to Morgyn Neill in the middle of the box, and he blasted the ball through a crowd of bodies and into the back of the net.
Chris Johnston had a low shot saved, and then David Goodwillie went on a mazy run from the halfway line looking for the equaliser and he eventually teed up Johnston, but his effort was blocked.
Late appeals for a penalty were turned down after a shot from Martin McNiff appeared to strike the arm of Rico Quitongo, as Dumbarton hung on the take all three points.
