Recap
Clyde ended the season in style at Broadwood with a convincing 4-2 victory over Dumbarton. The match was consistent with the majority of recent games as the Bully Wee played in an open and attractive manner giving the Clyde supporters much needed cheer in a season which has had more than its fair share of lows.
The game started brightly and Clyde went in front when Willie Sawyers headed home an in swinging Strachan free kick in the second minute. The Bully Wee doubled their lead in the 15th minute with both Strachan and Sawyers involved in an excellent passing move which ended with John Stewart scoring from close range.
Clyde’s whirlwind start to the match continued with a third goal in the 19th minute as John Stewart capitalised on a goalkeeping error to get his second from six yards. Dumbarton boss, Jim Chapman reacted by making a double substitution, introducing Derek Carcary and Stevie Murray to the fray and this had a positive effect for the away side. The Sons started to gain more possession and got their reward in the 33rd minute when McStay shot past Jordan Allan from 20 yards.
The pace of the first half was not matched in the second period but Dumbarton were given hope when Clyde’s Gramovics was sent off the 64 minute after his second booking of the afternoon.
Dumbarton didn’t make their numerical advantage count until the 83rd minute when Wyness guided the ball into the net, however any hope for the third 3-3 draw of the season between the sides was extinguished moments later as Strachan hit home the goal of the game with a fantastic strike into the top corner from 25 yards.
All in all, a positive display that left people wondering what could have been but regardless of the league table and relegation to the Third Division, the home support were glad just to be enjoying another victory, in a style that entertained and gave hope for the future.
