Recap
The Bully Wee picked up a vital three points in the race to avoid the League One relegation playoff spot and leapfrogged Dumbarton after a 2-0 win at Broadwood this afternoon.
Danny Lennon made four changes to the team that took on Forfar Athletic on Thursday, with Jamie Bain, Martin McNiff, Mark Lamont and Lloyd Robertson all returning to the starting line-up.
The Sons were presented with a golden chance in the opening minutes after the ball made it’s way to Rabin Omar. He was one-on-one with David Wilson but his effort struck the post, and then Tomas Brindley saw his rebound deflect over the bar after a vital block by Craig Howie.
Robert Jones then forced Wilson into a save after hitting a shot on the turn, and at the other end Martin McNiff threw himself to get on the end of Ross Cunningham’s cross, but scooped his effort over the bar.
Jamie Bain created a good opportunity for David Goodwillie with an accurate cross, but the Clyde skipper’s header landed on the roof of the net.
The Bully Wee then took the lead in style when Mark Lamont picked up the ball on the corner of the box, and curled a fine effort over the diving Sam Ramsbottom, into the top corner of the net.
Dumbarton tried to counter immediately but Wilson held Tomas Brindley’s strike from distance.
An already depleted Clyde side then suffered another blow when Craig Howie was forced off with a facial injury after a nasty looking incident with Omar.
Wilson made a couple of vital interventions after the interval, coming from his line to take the ball off the toe of PJ Crossan, and then holding a header on target from point blank range from the same player moments later.
Clyde added a second goal fifteen minutes from time after Ally Love charged up field. He could have played Goodwillie in ahead of him, but slipped the ball to the left, where Ross Cunningham was on hand to stroke the ball past Ramsbottom to give Clyde some breathing space.
Goodwillie almost added a third in the closing stages, but his header from a corner went narrowly wide.
