Recap
The Bully Wee picked up their first William Hill League 2 victory of the season in emphatic style by hitting Annan Athletic for six at Galabank today.
Darren Young made three changes to his side, with Darren Hynes and Marley Redfern coming in for the injured Ross Lyon and Robbie Leitch, whilst Jay Hogarth replaced Brian Kinnear in goals.
Kyle Connell was causing early problems, with his long throw headed narrowly wide by Logan Dunachie, before he created space for himself on the edge of the box but drilled a shot just the wrong side of the post.
The opener came in the 19th minute when Jamie Bradley’s corner was feebly punched by Zach Balfour, and James Hilton pounced on the ball, hitting it into the ground and past defenders on the line.
The lead was doubled four minutes later after good pressing high up the pitch forced the hosts into conceding possession, with Marley Redfern gaining control on the edge of the box, taking a touch and sending a low shot into the bottom corner.
The Bully Wee added another in the 36th minute after a flowing counter attack led by Connell and Redfern, who crossed into the box where Bradley laid off for Mouhamed Niang. Sena’s first shot was blocked by a defender, but the rebound fell to him and he made no mistake with a powerful second attempt to open his goal account with the club.
It was 4-0 just two minutes later after a fine move involving the front four. Hilton got the ball on the touchline inside his own half before turning and driving forward, playing it to Connell who in turn fed Bradley. His first time low cross into the middle of the six yard box was crashed high into the net by the onrushing Redfern.
It took six minutes of the second half for Clyde to add a fifth. Connell showed excellent hold up play, beating two defenders before sending a through ball to Redfern, who in turn set up Tommy Robson to drill a low cross into the box, with Connell timing his run to perfection and slotting the ball into the bottom corner of the net.
Darren Hynes was then unlucky to see his left footed volley from the corner of the box saved by Balfour, before a sixth goal was secured, and with it Redfern’s hat-trick. Sutherland picked up the ball on half-way and sent Redfern through on goal with the Annan defence at sea, with the winger rolling the ball past a stranded Balfour.
It should have been 7 when Sutherland set up fellow sub Scott Williamson who cut inside a defender and had the goal at his mercy, but he dragged his shot wide of target.
