Recap

The Bully Wee earned a vital three points in Ladbrokes League 2 this afternoon, with David Gormley scoring a late winning goal after a resolute team performance.

As Peter MacDonald stepped down onto the bench, fellow interim manager JP McGovern made his first start of the season in midfield. Ewan McNeil, Chris Smith and David Goodwillie were also added to the team.

It was a perfect start for Clyde when, after just three minutes, Smith managed to connect with Scott McLaughlin’s corner and he made no mistake in directing his header into the net to put The Bully Wee in front.

Clyde then had a few more chances in the opening stages as McLaughlin’s shot was blocked before it could reach the goal, before McGovern fired his effort over the bar.

The Galabankies started to come into the game after that and brought the scores level when Aidan Smith found space inside the area and put a low shot past Gourlay to equalise.

The same man could have then put the visitors ahead before the half-time break, but the forward saw his header come back off the bar.

Overall, there weren’t as many chances in what was a very even and tense second half.

Goodwillie brought out a good save from Currie in the Annan goal and the resulting corner almost lead to Clyde taking the lead, but Currie managed to collect a deflected effort on the line.

At the other end, Gourlay made a good stop low to his left and the visitors had two speculative penalty shouts waved away by the referee.

On 81 minutes, a clearance from the Clyde defence was flicked on by Goodwillie to put Gormley one on one with the ‘keeper. After racing to the edge of the box, he made no mistake, smashing the ball into the net and sparking a big celebration on and off the pitch.

The Bully Wee managed to hold on doggedly for the last ten minutes, to secure a very timely three points.
