The Bully Wee were made to pay for several missed chances at Galabank today, as a late goal earned Annan all three points in Ladbrokes League 2.
With Jordan McMillan suspended, Barry Ferguson made four changes to the starting line-up following last week’s defeat to Elgin, with Ewan McNeil, Scott Linton, Scott McLaughlin and Scott Ferguson all returning.
After a bright start from the home side, with Clyde defending against a strong wind and driving rain, The Bully Wee grew into the game and were unlucky not to go ahead on the half hour mark, when a Peter MacDonald effort crashed back off the post with goalkeeper Currie helpless.
Before the break, a fierce Ferguson shot brought out a great save by the home ‘keeper and the sides went in level at the break.
Weather conditions improved after the break and Clyde took the upper hand, but were unable to make the breakthrough. At the other end, Connor Quinn made two reflex saves to keep the home side at bay.
The deadlock was broken by Annan in the 74th minute when Max Wright scrambled the ball home from a corner from the left.
Immediately from the restart, Clyde attacked down the left through great work from the hardworking Marc McKenzie, who bored in on goal but couldn’t convert when the Currie made himself large at the near post.
Time ebbed away with Clyde trying in vain to equalise, with the final result severely damaging the club’s play-off aspirations.
