The Bully Wee recorded a fine and much-needed win in The Borders today, with Bryan Gifillan scoring twice against his old club.

Jim Duffy made four changes to the team that lost at Peterhead last week, with Ricki Lamie, Lee Sharp, Sean Fitzharris and Stef McCluskey all coming into the side.

Clyde started the match strongly and went two goals up inside the first 15 minutes of play. Gilfillan netted the first with a looping header from a Fitzharris cross. The second also came via a header, with David Marsh scoring his first ever goal for The Bully Wee after more good work on the right from Fitzharris and McCluskey.

Minutes later though, Marsh was shown a red card, as he conceded a penalty for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity. However, Jamie Barclay pulled off a great save from the spot-kick to keep the score at 0-2.

Before half-time, the numbers were evened up as Annan’s Steven Swinglehurst picked up a second yellow card from the referee.

Similar to the first half, Clyde were on top after the restart and took a three-goal lead, with Gilfillan getting his second goal of the game. This time it was created on the left wing, as Stuart McColm set him up to slot home from close range.

The home side then went on to put pressure on the Clyde goal, but a combination of missed chances, good goalkeeping and determined defending ensured that the three points would return to Cumbernauld.

The Galabankies did register a consolation goal with ten minutes left to play when they were awarded a second penalty following a foul by Lee Sharp. Scott Chaplain scored, but it didn’t affect the outcome.
