Recap
The Bully Wee moved off the bottom of the IRN-BRU Third Division today, following a narrow victory over Annan Athletic at Galabank.
Jim Duffy made one change to the starting line-up, with new signing Callum Fordyce replacing Jamie Lyden at the heart of the defence.
The 1-0 victory came through a John Sweeney penalty on the stroke of half-time. The margin of victory may have been slender but The Bully Wee fully merited the three points with an encouraging team performance with no failures.
Clyde were especially dominant in the first half but had keeper Jamie Barclay to thank for a superb save from a Scott Chaplain strike.
Sweeney was then put through on goal, however his rising shot went just over.
It seemed that honours would be even at the interval, but Kevin Watt chased a through ball and was felled in the box by Iain Chisholm. Sweeney, therefore, had the chance to make amends for his earlier miss and he grabbed the opportunity by striking the ball home from the spot.
Annan, who famously beat Rangers at Ibrox last weekend, began to get the lion’s share of possession in the second half but clear cut chances were few and far between, with the visitors always looking dangerous on the counter attack.
An equaliser was not to be and with Clyde unable to add to their lead the game ended with a single goal separating the teams, giving The Bully Wee maximum points from their two trips to Annan this season.
