Clyde
Recap
The Bully Wee came from behind with a late double from Martin Rennie to take all three points at Stair Park this afternoon.
After heavy rainfall overnight and today the match was delayed by 15 minutes to allow the Stranraer groundstaff more time to work on the pitch before the referee deemed it playable.
Darren Young made one change to his side, with Scott Williamson coming in for Robbie Leitch. Marley Redfern also returned to the squad and took a place on the bench.
The opening 15 minutes were ragged from both sides, as the wind controlled much of the game. Both Darren Lyon and Dom Docherty fired shots from outside the box, but they were dragged wide.
Martin Rennie was able to end on the end of a Docherty free-kick but his header lacked power and wasn’t able to trouble Sam Kane.
The final ten minutes of the first half saw Stranraer control the game but Clyde’s defence was able to head away all danger.
The Blues did have the ball in the net five minutes after the games restart when Robbie Foster tapped home a rebound after Jay Kennedy got fingertips to touch a shot onto the post, but it was quickly called offside.
A penalty was awarded to Stranraer after the referee deemed Andy Murdoch blocked a cross with his hand. Kennedy guessed the right way, but Mark Russell’s penalty was too powerful and he put his side in the lead with ten minutes remaining.
Just two minutes later, Russell went from hero to villain after catching Kyle Connell with his studs on a follow through and was shown a second yellow card. The resulting free-kick was beautiful converted by Rennie. Hit from around 35 yards out, the Clyde number 10 hit the ball perfectly, as it dipped and curled right into the top left corner of the net.
The Bully Wee would grab all three points in the second minute of stoppage time. From Connell’s corner, Craig Howie headed the ball back across goal, and Rennie was on hand in the six-yard box to poke an effort past Kane. The Clyde faithful erupted as the team held on to take all three points away from home for just the second time this season.
