Recap
The Bully Wee produced a much improved display at Broadwood today, to register a well deserved victory over promotion-chasing Stranraer.
With a number of injury problems to contend with, Jim Duffy had to shuffle the pack and the Clyde boss included Pat Scullion and the returning Kieran Brannan in a new look forward pairing.
It was Clyde that started the match brightly and could have taken an early lead, but John Neill’s pass was just too heavy for Scullion to reach in the box.
The visitors took advantage of that miss moments later, when a cross from the right was met by Michael Moore and his glancing header found the inside of Nick Feely’s far post.
Although there wasn’t too much for away ‘keeper Mitchell to do before half-time, Clyde looked more threatening than in recent weeks and were unlucky to be behind at the break.
However, the scoreline did swing early in the second half as The Bully Wee found two goals. Brannan got the first when he got on the end of Scullion’s flick from John Sweeney’s delivery into the box; his first goal for the club.
The second came when Neill’s shot from the edge of the box took a big deflection off Zak Belkouche and found the bottom corner of the net.
Clyde’s performance continued to be strong after the goals, with the remaining best chances of the match both falling to Brannan. Neill’s quick free kick and Sweeney’s clever play both gave him a chance to seal the points, but he missed the target and struck the ‘keeper respectively.
The full-time whistle was greeted by an appreciative home support that enjoyed an entertaining performance.
