Recap
Two stoppage time goals from The Bully Wee saw them complete a remarkable turnaround against Peterhead and leave Balmoor with all three Premier Sports Cup Group G points this afternoon.
Darren Young rotated his side with Ross Lyon, Craig Howie, Barry Cuddihy and Robbie Leitch coming into the starting XI.
The opening half was quiet with Robbie Leitch forcing a save from Jack Newman five minutes before the interval being the only notable action.
Scott Williamson flicked a corner towards goal early in the second half but his effort finished just wide of the post, whilst at the other end Tommy Robson made a vital block from Max Barry’s shot.
Brian Kinnear then got down low to make a fine save to deny Peterhead an opener, but took a blow to his ribs on the ground in the aftermath. He tried to play on but couldn’t continue, being replaced by trialist ‘keeper Colbi McQuarrie.
With ten minutes remaining referee Gary Hanvidge pointed to the spot after Craig McGuffie threw himself to the ground in the box. Kieran Shanks stepped up and made no mistake with the penalty.
The Blue Toon almost added a second when Niall McGinn went one-on-one with McQuarrie, but the young ‘keeper made a fine save to deny the veteran winger.
Clyde pushed for an equaliser and James Hilton was desperately unlucky to see his effort saved by Newman after a well worked move.
In the fifth minute of stoppage time, Robson floated a free-kick into the box and Craig Howie rose highest, nodding the ball towards goal and it trickled into the corner of the net.
The Bully Wee weren’t content with taking the game to penalties though and won it in the 97th minute. Kyle Connell launched a long throw into the box, and after an aerial duel it fell to Mouhamed Niang. The debutant took a shot, which Marley Redfern deflected into the back of the net to send the Clyde contingent wild.
