Recap
The Bully Wee came from two goals down to earn a point against Peterhead this afternoon after a David Goodwillie double.
Danny Lennon made two changes to the side from last Saturday’s Scottish Cup defeat at Clydebank, with Adam Livingstone and Robert Jones replacing Barry Cuddihy and Kevin Nicoll.
Ally Love had the first effort of the afternoon when he was on the end of Jones’ knock down, and his low drive was turned behind by Peterhead ‘keeper Brett Long.
Clyde suffered a blow in the 16th minute when Ross Cunningham was stretchered off with a back injury after an awkward landing and four minutes later Peterhead opened the scoring. Scott Brown’s cross was met by Russell McLean in the box, and he hit a shot on the turn that went in via the underside of the crossbar.
A minute later Robert Jones had his heel clipped in the Peterhead box but the referee decided to show him a yellow card for simulation.
The Blue Toon doubled their advantage in the 26th minute. McLean turned provider with a run down the left flank and got to the by-line, before cutting back for Grant Savoury to fire beyond Neil Parry.
Savoury had another effort moments later but his curling effort from the edge of the box went over the bar, whilst Jones had a header from a free-kick saved by Long from close range as the first half moved into stoppage time.
Clyde were awarded a penalty deep into added on time after Goodwillie was brought down by Long. He made no mistake from the spot, rolling the ball to Long’s right.
The Bully Wee were on level terms seven minutes after the restart. Aaron Splaine played a fine pass through to Goodwillie who got to the corner of the box, cut inside and sent a curling shot beyond Long with his left foot and into the corner of the net.
The Peterhead ‘keeper then denied Goodwillie a hat-trick, getting down low to turn his shot behind for a corner.
At the other end Peterhead almost retook the lead after good work from McLean allowed him to fire an effort from the edge of the box, but he watched his shot crack off the crossbar.
The game became end-to-end in the closing stages and Josh Mulligan led a counter attack with two minutes remaining, but he fizzed his shot across the face of goal.
The final chance fell to Clyde when Livingstone’s free-kick into the box was knocked down, but Long was able to get his hands on the ball just ahead of Gregory Tade.
