Recap
The Bully Wee produced an excellent team performance this afternoon to record back-to-back wins against the top two in League 2. David Goodwillie’s late winner also gave Danny Lennon his first victory at Broadwood since taking over as manager.
Lennon made no changes to the starting XI from last weekend’s win at Montrose, though new signing Adam Martin did make his debut from the bench.
Aaron Millar had the first real chance of the game when his knock down from a header found David Goodwillie, who then played the ball back to him. Millar drove on into the box and fired an effort on target, which was parried by Greg Fleming, and cleared away to safety.
Peterhead then had a chance of their own when Jack Leitch found room in the box, but his low shot fizzed just past the post.
The Blue Toon had the ball in the net shortly after the restart, when Jordon Brown poked the ball home on the rebound after Blair Currie had made an excellent point-blank save from Russell McLean. The assistant referee, however, had his flag raised for offside, and the goal did not stand.
The visitors almost broke the deadlock in spectacular fashion when the ball broke to Jamie Stevenson in a central position well inside his own half. He spotted Currie off his line and attempted a shot from distance, which just clipped the crossbar.
The Clyde midfield were beginning to make their mark on the game and a good flowing move involving Cuddihy, Millar and Mark Lamont ended with the latter unleashing a powerful shot on target, but Fleming got both hands behind it to push away.
The only goal of the game came with five minutes remaining on the clock, and it was The Bully Wee who would be celebrating. Aaron Millar was picked out with a cross into the box, and he cushioned a header back to Barry Cuddihy on the edge of the area. Cuddihy then lobbed the ball over the Peterhead rearguard, and into the path of David Goodwillie. The striker had endured a frustrating afternoon up until this point, but he made no mistake with his finish, calmly prodding past Fleming from close range. The visitors appealed for offside but the assistant referee kept his flag down.
Peterhead then tried to salvage something from the game in the closing stages, but the Clyde defence stood strong to record their first win at Broadwood since the opening day of the League 2 season in August.
