Recap
The Bully Wee came from behind to take a point in a pulsating encounter with Ladbrokes League 2 leaders Peterhead at Broadwood this afternoon.
Danny Lennon made just one change to the side which recorded a victory in Coatbridge last Saturday, with Jack Boyle coming in for Kristoffer Syvertsen.
It was Boyle who had the first attempt on goal but Greg Fleming was equal to his low drive.
The visitors were soon ahead through a Willie Gibson free-kick in the fifth minute. The midfielder’s effort from around 20 yards looked to be covered by Blair Currie but he could only parry it into the net.
Scott Rumsby then made a rare error after being caught in possession by Shane Sutherland, who drove towards goal and hit a shot that Currie was able to hold on to.
The Blue Toon didn’t have to wait long for a second goal however, after hitting Clyde on the counter attack moments later. Scott Brown played in Paul Willis to finish the move, with a low shot across Currie.
Danny Lennon introduced Scott Banks at half-time for Ray Grant and the youngster had an immediate impact, whipping in a cross from the touch-line for David Goodwillie to head home from close range two minutes after the restart.
The Bully Wee had their tails up but suffered a setback four minutes later after Brown intercepted a pass and hit a shot from the edge of the area which beat Currie to restore Peterhead’s two goal advantage.
Clyde however did not lose confidence and tried to find a way back into the game. Mark Lamont fizzed a low cross into the box which was met by Goodwillie, but he couldn’t make a connection and took a fresh air swipe at the ball.
Scott Rumsby then powered a header towards goal from a corner which looked to be stopped on the line by the hand of a Peterhead defender, but referee David Munro didn’t point to the spot.
At the other end Sutherland was unlucky to see his left-footed effort from range crack off the crossbar, before Munro did award Clyde a penalty after Jason Brown handled in the box. Goodwillie kept his composure and slotted past Fleming from 12 yards.
It was all square on the 78th minute, after Banks picked up the ball 25 yards from goal and curled the ball over the head of Fleming to open his goal account in sensation style.
Clyde utilised Martin McNiff as an auxiliary forward in an attempt to find a winning goal in the closing stages but despite a lot of effort they were unable to beat Fleming again, and had to settle for a point.
