Recap
Clyde are eight points adrift at the bottom of cinch League Two after a late penalty for Peterhead denied The Bully Wee consecutive home league victories for the first time since May 2023.
Goalkeeper Neil Parry made his first appearance since August as Ian McCall made four changes from Tuesday evening’s defeat to Elgin City. Chris McGinn was handed his first start as was Jaze Kabia, while Barry Cuddihy also returned to the starting lineup. Jack Leighfield, Ross Lyon, Robbie Leitch and Darren Hynes dropped to the bench.
Clyde spurned their first opportunity of the match in the third minute. Jordan Allan cut through the edge of the box and squared to the onrushing Liam Scullion, however, his effort was blocked by a defender and sent behind for a corner.
Peterhead’s Jack Brown attempted to muster a goalscoring opportunity from outside the box, but there wasn’t anybody in position to connect and the ball was calmly collected by Parry. The Bully Wee were left to rue another chance in front of goal in the 26th minute. Kabia sent a long ball into the path of Allan who rounded past a defender to square the ball to Scullion from the left hand, but the midfielder miscued his strike from close range.
With ten minutes remaining of the first half, the hosts forced McKenzie into action after Alex King fed the ball to Allan who fired a shot from the right hand side of the box, only for it to be blocked.
As the first half entered it’s penultimate minute, The Bully Wee broke the deadlock with Barry Cuddihy netting his tenth goal for the club. Scullion played a ball back to the captain, who drilled a low shot from over 20 yards which left McKenzie with no chance as it nestled deep into the corner of the net.
Both teams carved out good chances inside the opening three minutes of the second half. Parry made a strong save from Conor O’Keefe, before Cuddihy came agonisingly close to his second goal of the afternoon as he made a beeline for the net from the centre of the box, but this time the ‘keeper was on alert to deny him. A minute later, Allan sprinted through and was seemingly goalbound, but he took a heavy final touch and McKenzie collected the ball with ease.
The Bully Wee were continuing to press forward as they aimed to double their advantage with Kabia working in tandem with McGinn to send a low cross into the box in the 56th minute, but the ball was driven straight at the ‘keeper.
In the 71st minute, Martin Rennie maintained possession and attempted an effort from inside the box, but saw it saved by McKenzie. The Blue Toon tested Parry as an opposition forward outran Cuddihy on the right flank to sneak into the far corner of the box, but the ‘keeper crouched low to block the ball.
The visitors were again thwarted by Parry with five minutes remaining as a Peterhead player connected onto Rory McAllister’s corner from the edge of a crammed box, but the ‘keeper leapt up to stop his shot.
However, The Blue Toon equalised after a deeply controversial penalty was awarded in the fifth minute of injury time. The ball was deemed to have landed on Scullion’s hand with McAllister making no mistake from the spot as Clyde were forced to settle for a point.
