Peterhead fought back from two goals behind to share the spoils with Clyde in a four-goal thriller at New Douglas Park.

Danny Lennon made three changes to the side that defeated Queen of the South on opening day last Saturday, with Paul Kennedy, Kurtis Roberts and Jordan Allan in place of Nathan Nyamsi Hendji, Conner Duthie and Olly McDonald.

The Bully Wee were the first to open the scoring in the 14th minute with Ross Cunningham rising high to head Kennedy’s cross into the top-right corner of the net.

It took the home side a mere five minutes to double their advantage as Cunningham rounded past Newman after connecting onto Jordan Allan’s through-ball to hit a powerful strike into the net.

The Blue Toon then pulled a goal back in the 27th minute as Adeyemo found ample space to hit a low strike past Neil Parry. Clyde were caught with the tail between their legs two minutes later as the ball fell in the path of O’Keefe inside the box who made no mistake to hit home the equaliser.

As the interval approached, Cunningham squandered a glorious chance to bag a hat-trick as he connected with Kennedy’s ball at the back-post, only for his shot to go wide. Jordan Allan was next to put himself in pole position for an attempt at goal, however, his effort also missed the target.

The visitors were the first to break through at the start of the second-half with a shot on goal which was comfortably blocked by Parry. Clyde were then awarded a penalty in the 52nd minute after a foul in the box from a corner-kick, however, Cunningham was denied by the legs of the ‘keeper as the score remained level.

The home side were reduced to 10-men shortly after the hour-mark after Allan was controversially dismissed for an attempt at goal after beating the ‘keeper. Assistant Manager Allan Moore was also issued a yellow card for his protests in the dugout.

Clyde were a whisker away from regaining their lead in the 73rd minute after Newman reacted quickly to block Peter Grant’s header which looked certain to hit the bottom corner. At the other end, Parry acted decisively to deny an attempted effort at goal from the visitors.

Proceedings remained tight as the match entered the final ten minutes with McDonald catching onto Euan Cameron’s pass but his effort fell right in the hands of Newman.
