Clyde v Greenock Morton

The home team started the brighter with Trouten forcing Scott to make a good block after decent link up play by Clyde’s strike force of McKay and Gemmill.

 

On the other flank McLaren would sting the palms of Scott, when he shot straight at the keeper.

 

Despite a promising start Clyde were losing the physical battle and Morton’s adventurous 3-4-3 formation would start to cause the home team problems. After Russell and forced Hutton to make a good stop, it came as no surprise when the visitors took the lead.

 

Russell cut in from the right and spotted an intelligent run from new boy Newby. It was very tight as to whether Newby was offside so the stand side linesman correctly played the advantage to the attacking team. Newby’s first effort was well saved by Hutton, but was able to squeeze the rebound in at the near post. The only other incident of note was a booking for Wake for a quite shocking challenge on McGregor that was almost a red card offence in itself.

 

Although there wasn’t much between the teams John Brown decided to freshen things up and brought Pat Clarke on for Div McKay.

 

However it would be the visitors who would press on for another goal. Russell would hit the woodwork, the side netting, and screw his shot wide when sent clear.

 

In what had developed into a fairly tousy offence, Higgins and McGregor would go on the refs book for hefty challenges, along with Morton’s Walker, Paartalu, McAlister, McGuffie.
