Clyde v East Fife

The Bully Wee got back to winning ways with a fine 2-0 victory over East Fife at a sunny Broadwood this afternoon.

Danny Lennon welcomed Joshua Bradley-Hurst, Jonathan Page and Lewis Jamieson back from injury and illness, and there was also a recall to the starting XI for Mark Docherty.

The visitors had a chance in the first minute after a slack clearance by Bradley-Hurst was met by Danny Denholm. The ‘keeper redeemed himself though and saved Denholm’s effort, before Page cleared to safety.

Clyde then had their first opportunity of the afternoon a couple of minutes later after a through ball was played to Lewis Jamieson. He took a good first touch and poked an effort towards goal, but East Fife ‘keeper Jude Smith blocked it well.

Smith was called into action again when Adam Livingstone picked up the ball on the left flank, cut inside and hit a powerful shot with his right foot which Smith had to react quickly to, and pushed behind for a corner.

Livingstone then went on a mazy run across the edge of the box, and the ball broke to Nick McAllister who hammered a shot towards goal. The ball cracked off the underside of the crossbar and bounced down a good yard or so over the line before bouncing back out, but neither the referee or his assistant gave a goal.

The Bully Wee had the ball over the line again a couple of minutes later and this time the goal was given. Jamieson received a chipped ball from Aaron Splaine and hit a rasping half-volley which cannoned off the underside of the bar again. This time however it fell to Ally Love, who took a couple of touches before slotting the ball beyond a crowd of defenders on the edge of the six yard box and into the net.

Clyde doubled their advantage just before the hour mark. Mark Docherty’s long diagonal was met by Rob Jones in the box, who cushioned a header into the path of Jamieson. He controlled the ball and took it past a defender, before chipping it over Smith.
