Recap
Clyde and East Fife played out a goalless 90 minutes at Bayview this afternoon, as The Bully Wee stretched their unbeaten run to five matches.
Danny Lennon stuck with the same team that beat Alloa Athletic last weekend, with Morgaro Gomis returning to the squad to take a place on the bench.
The Fifers has the first chance of the day when Kyle Connell connected with a cross on the volley, but Neil Parry got two strong palms behind his effort.
Parry was called into action again moments later following a run from Darren Watson down the left wing. He sent a low cross into the box which Jamie Semple picked up, but Parry was equal to his shot.
Clyde’s first effort of the afternoon came through Lewis Jamieson when he got on the end of Rob Jones’ flick-on, but his effort lacked power and Jude Smith was able to hold it comfortably.
The Bully Wee had a strong claim for a penalty when Jones was played through on goal by Aaron Splaine. Chris Higgins made no effort to play the ball, instead running out of its path to crudely barge Jones in the back. Remarkably referee Peter Stuart ignored the incident.
Jamieson then had another effort when he ran down the right and cut inside, and sent a curling effort towards goal. It looked destined for the top corner but Scott Mercer was in the right place and sent it behind with his head.
Shortly after the interval Aaron Steele sent a volley from distance towards Clyde’s goal but Parry snuffed out the danger, whilst another Jamieson run at the other end caused a stramash as Smith fumbled a catch but The Bully Wee were unable to take advantage.
From the next passage of play the hosts had a golden opportunity to take the lead when Watson went through one-on-one with Parry, but the ‘keeper made himself big and blocked the shot was his body.
Adam Livingstone then had a drive deflected narrowly wide, and he then sent a deep cross to Gregory Tade at the back post but his effort was blocked and turned behind.
Smith then came for a high ball with ten minutes remaining but didn’t win it leaving an open goal for Tade and Ally Love, but they delayed the effort and the shot was blocked.
In the last minute Smith again fumbled a high ball and Splaine hooked it into the net, but referee Stuart saved the ‘keepers blushes by blowing for a ridiculously soft foul. Danny Lennon was then shown a red card by the whistler at full-time.
