Recap
The Bully Wee picked up a well earned point against East Fife at Bayview this evening in testing weather conditions.
Danny Lennon made two changes to the side that won at Stirling on Saturday, with Mark Lamont and Michael McMullin coming in for Kieran Duffie and Darren Smith.
McMullin, making his first start for Clyde, almost opened the scoring with a low cross on target that Brett Long had to save with his leg.
East Fife created a well worked opportunity shortly after following a good passing move, but David Mitchell was able to save.
The Fifers then came close again. Craig Howie marked Chris Duggan tightly and blocked his effort from a cross. Duggan then reacted first and hooked the rebound across the face of goal.
At the other end David Goodwillie weaved his way past several defenders before teeing up Mark Lamont, whose well struck shot from the edge of the box was held by Long.
Moments later Goodwillie made his was to the by-line and cut the ball back across goal with Ray Grant rushing onto it. However a last ditch block by a home defender sent the ball behind for a corner.
The home side almost took the lead in first half stoppage time after a header from a corner was deflected onto the bar.
Rain fell constantly throughout the first 45 and conditions didn’t improve after the break. Slack play in defence gave East Fife an early chance and Danny Denholm found himself one-on-one with Mitchell, but he poked the ball past the post.
Clyde then had another opportunity on the break. The ball eventually made it’s way to Chris McStay and he rifled a shot on target which Long parried past the post.
The Bully Wee had three good chances in the third minute stoppage time to take all three points but somehow the ball wouldn’t go into the net. Chris Johnston delivered a cross for Goodwillie in the middle of the box but his powerful header was saved by Long, and then Alex Petkov saw his header from close range crash against the bar before his follow-up effort was again blocked by Long.
