A goal in stoppage time at the end of each half saw cinch League 1 champions Dunfermline Athletic inflict a cruel defeat on The Bully Wee on trophy day at East End Park this afternoon.

Jim Duffy made two changes to his side, with Rico Quitongo and Cameron Salkeld replacing Martin Rennie and the injured Barry Cuddihy.

Clyde took the lead after 12 minutes played with the first chance of the afternoon. Salkeld outmuscled a defender to win the ball and played a one-two with Kyle Doherty, before smashing a volley across goal and into the corner of the net.

The duo combined again when Salkeld got on the end of Doherty’s long diagonal over the home defence but Deniz Mehmet stretched and saved his attempted lob from the edge of the box.

The Pars first real opportunity came towards the end of the half when a cross from the left evaded everyone and Paul Allan nipped in at the back post, but he couldn’t keep his effort down.

The hosts drew level as the first half creeped into stoppage time, after pinball in the Clyde box ended with Kane Ritchie-Hosler sliding a shot past Ryan Mullen into the bottom corner.

The Bully Wee created several chances after the interval, with Doherty’s cross into the box being flicked on by Liam Scullion to Jon Craig, who turned and hit it with his right peg but it went just over the bar.

Scullion then had the ball in the net in the 55th minute when he diverted a shot from Doherty past Mehmet, but the assistant referee flagged for offside. Video footage however showed that Scullion was in fact onside when Doherty hit his shot.

The Pars began to crank up the pressure and had most of the ball but were unable to really test Mullen, until the match moved into the third minute of stoppage time.

A home forward picked up a loose ball and teed up Lewis McCann, who sent a left footed shot past Mullen into the top corner of the net to take all three points and break Clyde hearts.

The result just along the road at Kelty however confirmed that Peterhead would finish in 10th place, and Clyde would contest the League 1 playoffs.
