Recap
Quarter-final time of the Alba Challenge Cup saw the 2006 finalists reunite for a spot in the semi-final.
Pat Clarke was suspended but Neil McGregor was fit again and Paul Emslie made his debut.
Clyde were presented with the first chance after an Adam Boyd slip but Div McKay’s second touch when clear through on goal was too heavy and Bullock gathered.
It was a chance that Clyde would rue missing. Following a corner kick County defender Boyd’s header came down off the underside off the bar to the waiting Craig, whose bundled effort crept over the line despite valiant efforts from Cherrie and McGregor.
The match had been simmering with anger as a number of decisions were contested by the players and fans alike and the frustration was compounded when Neil McGregor was sent off for a second bookable offence for deliberate hand ball despite the claims of many within the ground that the blond centre half had been fouled moments earlier.
County had several chances to kill the match in the second half, making full use of the extra man, but only sloppy finishing and some good shot stopping by Cherrie kept the game close.
The game could have been closer with just minutes remaining if the referee had awarded a penalty for a foul on McKay, but it was not to be.
Hard to gauge how good or bad a performance this was against a team with an extra man and some less than favourable decisions but County progress and Clyde can concentrate on the league.
