Recap
Clyde secured another three points with a deserved victory over Ross County. In short the match was typical of many a Clyde game this season with the Bully Wee dominating the first half but not killing the game off to allow the fans to enjoy the game in the latter stages.
Clyde got off to the perfect start when Stephen O’Donnell fired in a fantastic strike to break the deadlock after only 7 minutes. The Bully Wee dominated the half from then on, with the midfield unit in particular forcing the play, as County struggled to make any impression.
Strangely the much fancied Ross County midfielder John Rankin only contribution of note was clearing the ball off the line from a Tom Brighton effort and this was indicative of the command that Clyde had on the game. However as we have learnt to our cost before this season possession means little if it is not backed up by goals.
Peter Cherrie had been a virtual spectator in the first period and that changed to an extent in the second half as County tried to salvage the game. In truth Clyde’s defence held firm as County rarely created any clear cut chances however Cherrie, the ex Airdrie and Ayr stopper, had to be alert from an Alex Burke effort which if conceded would have been rough justice on Graham Robert’s side.
In the end it was a terrific victory as Clyde became only the second league team to return from Dingwall with maximum points. Clyde were at their best in the first period and the management team will again be frustrated that the team’s outfield play is not being converted into goals but the bottom line is that Clyde are continuing to be difficult to beat playing decent football and as a result are making a happy habit of picking up points to keep them in the mix at the top end of the table.
