Recap
The Bully Wee were rewarded with all three points this afternoon following a dominant performance against Albion Rovers at Cliftonhill.
Danny Lennon was forced into one change due to Kevin Nicoll’s suspension. Jordan Stewart returned to the side, with Ray Grant moving into midfield.
Clyde started the game brightly and opened the scoring after just nine minutes. David Goodwillie got on the end of a long through-ball by John Rankin, and he kept his composure when through on goal, rounding ‘keeper Peter Morrison and slotting into an empty net.
Goodwillie almost doubled his tally moments later in a similar move after being picked out by Barry Cuddihy, but saw his effort come back off the post on this occasion.
A second goal did come in the 17th minute. Mark Lamont twisted and turned in the box before the ball broke to Goodwillie, who teed up Rankin at the edge of the area. The veteran then hit a sweet shot with his left foot which dipped over the head of Morrison, to score his fourth goal in as many games.
Morrison then made an excellent double save to prevent Clyde from extending their lead. Barry Cuddihy drove forward and played a one-two with Jack Boyle, but saw his effort parried, and then Morrison reacted quickly to save Boyle’s rebound.
The home ‘keeper was a busy man in the first half and was tested again by Rankin. Morrison intially spilled the midfielder’s low strike, but got his hands on the ball again just before Goodwillie could capitalise. Rankin came close again from a free-kick which clipped the top of the crossbar.
Albion Rovers’ best chance of the afternoon came from a Jamie Gallagher shot on the edge of the area midway through the second half, but Blair Currie was able to hold it easily.
Goodwillie was played in behind the home defence again at the other end but lost his footing with only Morrison to beat.
The points were sealed with eight minutes remaining when Rankin released Cuddihy down the right flank. He put a cross into the box, and substitute Ally Love was on hand at the front post to nod the ball past Morrison.
