Recap
Marley Redfern’s last-ditch strike rescued a point for Clyde at Station Park this afternoon, as a frustrating ninety minutes yielded yet another draw.
Darren Young made two changes to the team that lost to East Kilbride last week, with loanee Aiden McGinlay making his first start for the club in place of Mouhamed Niang and Barry Cuddihy preferred to Kyle Fleming in the middle.
The hosts opted to play with the breeze and sun at their backs in the first half in an attempt to force errors from the Bully Wee rearguard, but it stood up well to an onslaught of long balls in behind to the ever-willing Jake Sutherland. Chances were extremely limited for both sides and, other than a few straightforward claims from Jay Hogarth, neither ‘keeper was called into meaningful action.
Hogarth didn’t emerge for the second half after picking up a hip injury late in the first, with deputy Brian Kinnear replacing him at the interval. The Bully Wee, now with the conditions in their favour, started to exert some control on proceedings and a fine double stop from Mason Munn kept the scores level.
Just after the hour mark and against the run of play, a straight ball into the Clyde box wasn’t cut out and bounced through to Sutherland, who lashed powerfully beyond Kinnear at his near post to open the scoring.
Darren Young’s men struggled to break down an even more obdurate Forfar side in the time that remained, but half chances started to come their way after Logan Dunachie was redeployed up front. The big defender was picked out in the middle of the hosts’ box but couldn’t generate enough power on his header to trouble Munn, before substitute Kyle Connell’s audacious lob attempt was desperately pawed over the crossbar by the Forfar ‘keeper.
As it looked as though the pressure would amount to nothing, the half chances soon turned into gilt-edged ones. Craig Howie’s volley from a corner was too central to beat Munn, before Robbie Leitch dithered with a clear sight of goal after a long throw was flicked on to him.
Deep into injury time, Clyde did finally manage to pull an iron out of the fire. A long punt forward resulted in a red and black jersey pulling the ball back across the face of goal, with Marley Redfern getting across his man at the front post to breach Forfar’s stubborn resistance with the last kick of the game.
