Recap
Clyde were once again left ruing a defensive error which allowed Forfar Athletic to take a point from the cinch League 2 encounter at Station Park this afternoon.
Interim Head Coach Chris Millar made three enforced changes, with Darren Hynes, Liam Scullion and Ross Forbes coming in for the injured Stuart Carswell, Darren Whyte (also ineligible) and Martin Rennie.
The first chance of the day fell to Peter Grant when he connected with Ross Forbes’ free-kick but his header came back off the post.
Forbes then tried his luck with another free-kick on the corner of the box moments later but Marc McCallum held his effort.
Euan Mutale had the first effort for the home side in the 13th minute but Jack Leighfield held his low drive comfortably, and seconds later Forbes then almost opened the scoring in sensational style with a chip over McCallum 35 yards out on the touchline, but could only watch on as his effort clipped the inside of the post and bounced out, before Connor Young saw his follow up effort blocked.
Leighfield was tested midway through the half but made a strong save to deny Tomas Brindley from close range.
Ji Stevenson then had two good opportunities just before the interval, first getting on the end of Kian Leslie’s defence splitting pass but blazed a shot across the face of goal, then the ball dropped to him after Liam Scullion hit a shot into the ground but with an empty net gaping the header was miscued and it bounced into McCallum’s arms.
The second half was a quieter affair but it did produce both goals, with Connor Young breaking the deadlock with a spectacular strike in the 71st minute. Leighfield’s long kick up park was nodded down by Stevenson into the path of Young, who took a touch and sent a dipping shot over the head of McCallum and into the back of the net from over 25 yards out.
At the other end Leighfield stood tall and made a fantastic save from Craig Thomson after he was played through one-on-one as the game entered the final ten minutes.
The Loons took a point with an 89th minute goal after Kyan Gunn lost possession and Stuart Morrison fired a shot from the edge of the box, which took a deflection off Peter Grant and crashed high into the net, leaving Leighfield stranded.
