Recap
The Bully Wee produced a much-improved performance at Broadwood this afternoon, coming close to beating Ladbrokes League 2 leaders Forfar.
In their first match in charge, joint interim managers Peter MacDonald and JP McGovern made four changes to the team, with Martin McNiff, Ryan Finnie, Phil Johnston and David Gormley all coming in.
There wasn’t much between the sides in an open start to the match, but the first clear-cut chance fell to the visitors, with John Gibson forced into a good block by James Lister.
Forfar did take the lead after 25 minutes though, when Danny Denholm took advantage of some sloppy play in midfield and blasted a superb shot into the top corner of the goal.
Shortly after that, Finnie was forced to leave the field on a stretcher – thankfully with no signs later of a serious injury – and he was replaced by Matt Flynn.
Clyde continued to compete well up until the half-time break and MacDonald had a couple of chances, with Scott McLaughlin’s chip over away ‘keeper Grant Adam needing to be cleared off the line.
The Bully Wee started the second half strongly and soon forced an equaliser, as MacDonald’s header was clearly handled by a Forfar player and a penalty was awarded. MacDonald stepped up and scored comfortably from the spot.
As Clyde started to play with some confidence, McLaughlin’s excellent free-kick into the box was headed home by Gormley to make it 2-1.
The lead lasted around 10 minutes, before The Loons got back on level terms when a high ball evaded the Clyde defence and Lister finished an easy chance.
However, in the aftermath of the goal, the referee was alerted to an incident involving Adam and the goalkeeper was sent off. With Forfar having already made three subs, midfielder Martin Fotheringham pulled on the ‘keeper’s jersey.
That led to The Bully Wee pushing for a winner in the closing stages of the match and, with just a couple of minutes left, there was an agonising miss as Ross Perry looked certain to score but put a header wide of the target from close range.
